"So, roll up, roll up – it’s fun in the way that only crazy English comedy can be."
"Unoriginal Sin is a good solid night of fun entertainment "
Mellow Drama has a fantastic track record of producing plays that people really want to see. Apart from the record breaking The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), they have also put on An Evening with Gary Lineker, God’s Official, Kissing Sid James, Gasping, My First Time, and the back to back hit comedies, All the great Books (Abridged) and The 39 Steps.
Now Mellow Drama proudly presents "Unoriginal Sin" , by David Tristam
Eve is twenty-four and never been kissed. Well, not properly at least.
Bill is thirty-five, rich, alcoholic, and with the sex drive of an adolescent bull on steroids.
Eve is engaged to Neville. Bill is married to Jenny. Jenny is having an affair with Jeremy, but she remains utterly devoted to her husband's cheque book.
Miles is Bill's best friend. Or at least he was, before he discovered Bill's underpants hanging from the lightshade in his bedroom.
Then there's Father Tomlin. At least he's taken a lifelong vow of celibacy. Or so his daughter claims.
Original Sin? It seems there's nothing very original about it any more... Our production stars John Montanaro, Louiselle Vassallo, Faye Paris, Barry Calvert, Stefan Cheriet Busuttil and Jean-Pierre Agius.
This side splitting comedy is being directed by Steve Casaletto and will be performed at Manoel Theatre on Oct 22,23 and 24.
Starring:
It’s not the first time Faye has taken her clothes off on stage or played the village nerd. One hopes she is not being type cast! Faye’s more recent roles include a woman in a library in ‘The Sex Comedies’ by Iain Heggie, an Airman in ‘Alo` Alo`’, Sister James in John Patrick Shanley’s ‘Doubt’, a witch in the Scottish play, Hermia in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, Stella in Tennesse Williams’ ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ and Anne Page in Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor. Previously Faye has played the roles of Monica in ‘An Evening with Gary Lineker’ by Arthur Smith and Chris England, Sir Prize in 2005/06 MADC’s Christmas Panto ‘Sleeping Beauty’, Maureen in Alan Ayckbourne’s ‘Time of my Life’, Rachel in Robin Hawdon’s ‘Perfect Wedding’, Brooke in Michael Frayne’s ‘Noises Off’, Ariel in ‘The Tempest’, Bolletta in Henrik Ibsen’s ‘The Lady from the Sea’, Mitzi in John Chapman and Michael Pertwee’s ‘Look no Hans’, Constance in Peter Schaffer’s ‘Amadeus’.
John started acting at the age of 16 when he took part in a production of the play whose name we cannot mention (just in case). Next up was a small part in HMS Pinafore where he met Pia who introduced him to the world of MADC. Since then John has never looked back, taking part in many one-acts, pantos, musicals and farces at a wide variety of venues. He also enjoyed an entertaining stint as Gabriel in the television series Angli. His recent shows for Mellow Drama include Kissing Sid James, An Evening with Gary Lineker, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), Unoriginal Sin, All the Great Books (abridged) and Gasping. Throughout his acting career, John has always enjoyed making people laugh and that is why he jumped at the chance to be a co-founder of Mellow Drama.
Louiselle has been active in the theatre for many years, with various roles in a number of plays and musicals, mainly with MADC , apart from Theatre anon, with a flare for comedy, and impeccable timing.
Louiselle is currently a media manager with a television station and is also a lecturer in video production within the Communications Course at the University of Malta.
Steffan set out acting over 15 years ago, where he had started by doing cabaret shows and writing and performing sketches. He then moved on to taking acting more seriously, when he joined a school here in Malta and started gaining a more extensive level of training both in acting and musical theatre. They led him to take part in several performances here on the island, including ‘Like Totally Weird’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Kiss Me Kate’ and ‘Assassins’. Following a stint on the maltese reality TV show SFIDA in 2002, Steffan continued persuing his dream in 2003 where he was accepted at ArtsEd in London, which lead to a BA (hons) in Acting after 3 years of intense studying. Whilst in the UK performed in a number of Venues, both on and off the west end including: Tibalt ‘Romeo & Juliet’, Fanton ‘Nana’, Jupiter ‘Out of this World’, Lord Sepulchrave ‘Gormenghast’, Henry ‘Present Laughter’ and Jaques ‘As You Like It’. He also appeared in a few TV dramas on the BBC, ITV and E4, such as Hollyoaks and Sold. After returning to Malta, he carried on acting where he took the lead in MADC’s panto – Simbad the Tailor. He also landed a great role in a few episodes for Italian fiction called ‘Carrabineiri’, which aired on Canale 5. He also carried out various commercials and ad campaigns, worked on local TV dramas such as ‘Delliejiet’ and most recently played the role of Jesus in ‘Is it Me?’ at the priory in Mdina. Currently, Steffan is also shooting a new drama for local TV, which will be aired as from January 2010.
