Keeping Up Appearances
By Roy Clarke
Directed By Steve Casaletto

03 Mar. 11 - 06 Mar. 11

Emmet, with the help of sister Liz, long suffering best friend of Hyacinth, is directing a play at the Village Hill. Hyacinth, although involved in the art class, finds out that the part of a Lady Malvern is up for grabs, and thinks its just for her, and works her way in, not knowing she must also play the cook. She’s not happy, and when she finds out that her sister Daisy is playing a Duchess, she’s livid, but carries on to save face.

Meanwhile, the newly divorced Mr. Milson has got the very wanted attention of an in between relationships’ Rose. An unseen Richard is escorting a Mrs. Debden round the art that Hyacinth is displaying. Daddy has escaped from the home of Violet, the sister with a swimming pool and room for a pony, and is on his way to the village hall dressed as a member of the Dessert Rats, for reasons unknown.

Keeping Up Appearances is a good English laugh, as it jogs along at a easy pace, and no-one - bar Herman Gerring - gets offended by it. Our production stars Marylou Coppini as Hyacinth Bucket, Louiselle Vassallo, Mark Cabourdin, Isabelle Warington, Vanessa Attard, James Calvert, Jean Pierre Agius, Jo Caruana and Martin Azzopardi.

It is being directed by Steve Casaletto and will be performed at Manoel Theatre on 3-6 Mar (With 2 shows on the Sunday).

The production is rated 12.

Starring:

Jean-Pierre Agius
Jean-Pierre Agius - Jean-Pierre’s first appearance on the Manoel Theatre stage was in Amadeus (2002) and subsequently in Cabaret (2003). That same year, Jean-Pierre won the MADC’s Best Actor of 2003 award in the One Act Play Festival for the lead role in Harold Pinter’s One for the Road. Comedy roles followed in Noises Off (2004) and The Mirror in the panto Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (2004). Other panto, roles included that of Cynergix, in Hercules (2006) and Tylor Banks in Sinbad (2008). Shakespeare roles have included that of Sebastian in MADC’S s The Tempest (2003), Salerio in The Merchant of Venice (2004), Hortensio in Taming of the Shrew(2005) and Banquo in Macbeth (2008). Jean-Pierre is probably best known for his lead role in the TV comedy, Kugini (Net TV) and a recent cameo role in ‘Dellijiet’ (TVM). In 2009, Jean tested his vocal chords as Spider and Gen Lord Glossop in the dark musical Jekyll & Hyde. Light relief followed with the part of Cesar in Are You Being Served (2010). Wearing the strangest costume, Jean appeared as a Roman clown in Alejandro Almenabar’s latest film, ‘Agora’. Swapping the pom poms on his head for a toweling headband and a flammable tracksuit, Jean is thrilled to be playing the socially-inept Neville alongside a fantastic cast
